Double-Goal Heaven for Bond, George Bond

19th October 2023

Year 11 left Malton shaken and stirred, in the first round of the Scarborough and District Schools Cup on Friday evening, in a blockbuster performance worthy of the silver screen.

St. Augustine’s started the first-half at a great tempo, and the pressing of the front three of Rocco G, Shaun I, and Stevo J was a Spectre-cal to behold, which reaped rewards within five minutes. Stevo drove in from the right and unleashed a shot that the keeper could only parry, straight into the path of Shaun, who had the easiest of tap-ins.

Shaun’s hold-up and link play was exceptional, and he created numerous chances for Stevo and Rocco to utilise their pace, with both players consistently outstripping their fullbacks, even when giving them a headstart of The Living Daylights.

With Charlie S and Bobby S, once again, imperious at the back, reading the game with a Goldeneye, ably assisted by Ksean F and Ben B, Malton were left to harmlessly shoot from distance, and never troubled Toby B, in goal, who assuredly marshalled his defence well.

George B and Archie W worked tirelessly in midfield, to give the diminutive magician that is Milan K the freedom to completely dominate the game with his touch, balance and trickery, and he certainly showed his License to Skill, as he repeatedly beat defenders with ease.

Year 11 we’re dominating the match, but only had a solitary goal to show for it, until two minutes before half-time, when Shaun created some space for himself on the corner of the penalty area, before striking a Thunderball that rebounded off the post, straight into George’s path, for a tap in.

The second half saw Malton get into the game a little more, as they out-enthused Year 11 for the early part of the half, and created a number of dangerous chances.

However, with 16 minutes of the half gone, Stevo chased down what looked like a lost cause, mugged the defender on the byline, and crossed for George to Never Say Never Again and notch his second tap-in of the match. 3-0.

Jayden H broke up play superbly, in the middle of the park, and snuffed out several Malton attacks and, with it, their enthusiasm for the fight, allowing Year 11 to comfortably see out the remainder of the match, for an impressive victory, which keeps St. Augustine’s in the cup to Die Another Day.
