Year 11 Student to represent World Cup qualifying tournament

30th January 2025

St. Augustine’s Year 11 student, Luca has been selected to represent the British Virgin Islands U17s in the CONCACAF U17 World Cup qualifying tournament in Costa Rica, in February.

After impressing the selectors with his skill, work-rate, and attitude, Luca was initially selected in a preliminary 35-man squad, and faced a nervous wait to see if he made the final 23-man travelling squad.

Happily, Luca was selected, and now jets off to Costa Rica for the two-week World Cup qualifying tournament, where the British Virgin Islands have been drawn in Group B and will face Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Sint Maarten, and hosts, Costa Rica, for a place at the FIFA U17 World Cup, in Qatar in November, where they could come up against the likes of England’s Premier League stars such as Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Tottenham’s Mikey Moore, and the highly rated Chris Rigg of Sunderland.
